New Domain & Migration to Cloudflare

argxs is now served under argxs.dev and argxs.com now redirects to argxs.dev.
With this change argxs has also been migrated to Cloudflare for better safety for the users and for a better performance delivering the site

Bug Fixes

Hotfix

  • Fixed an issue where scrolling the page would cause an incorrect position of the canvas cursor on Colors#Color-Picker. Along with this hotfix, the code has been greatly cleaned up on Colors#Color-Picker to avoid similar issues in the future. A general testing should have been performed before release. I apologize for any inconvenience this might have caused.
  • A delay has been added to the animation, which should make the sidebar less glitchy

New Features

Icon Version Tags & New Sorting

Icons now contain a version tag, showing what version an icon was added. This changes which icons are marked as "New", where all icons that have been added in the current live version, will be marked as new.
This change has also made it possible to move more compute server-side, freeing the user of redundant and repetitive compute. All icons are checked if they're new when the server initializes, and this data is simply passed along with the rest of the icon's data, when the user loads the page.

New Features

It is now possible to search for the exact icon you're looking for, when browsing the icons section! This is done with a simple implementation, and thus does not have any smart features, like fuzzy search. This is partially since the entire search is done client side.

Persistent Settings

Multiple settings now carry over between sessions, for a better user experience. The settings are stored in Local Storage with keys like icons#background_light. From a privacy perspective, there is absolutely nothing to be afraid of. There are no trackers, 3rd parties or other ill-intended methods in use. Just a simple cross session storage, so you don't have to change from 48 icons per page to 24, every single time you open the page. All persistent settings are listed below.

Dimmable background

The background can now be dimmed when viewing icons in the Highlighted Icon modal. The background is "lit" as default, and can be dimmed by pressing the light bulb in the top left corner of the modal.


Note: This feature natively respects the user's preference for reduced transparency, and will default to a dimmed background, in case reduced transparency is prefered.

Image Processing

argxs now offers PNG, WEBP, and JPEG versions available for download for all icons. These filetypes are generated automatically from the SVGs, and thus will always be of high quality.
The process starts by generating a PNG from the SVG. This is done with the help of Inkscape. A minimum width/height of 1000px is first calculated, and ensured, and then the conversion is made with Inkscape's CLI

The rest of the images are generated with the newly available native image processing pipeline in Bun.

The entire process is automatic. A CRON job is scheduled to run at every day at midnight, checking and processing all icons. This is currently redundant, but is set up in advance, for future structure changes, as all resources are set to be moved to a separate repository. This might seem like a waste of resources, but the whole process takes less than 200ms from start to finish, when all assets have already been generated. The reason for moving to a separate repository is due to a simple human oversight, of how many resources there eventually would be...
